More like, “you survived and kept a tiny human alive for a year, Molly and Justin!” We trekked out to the peninsula to celebrate Will’s birthday today. Sunny weather, more beach time, and it was great to see everyone!

Last night, we gathered with our family of friends in remembrance of our dear friend, Kel, who passed away a year ago. Despite making me workout to the point of nausea as my rowing coach in college, Kel was one of my favorite friends and I’m thankful he moved to Seattle several years ago so that we could bond over eating, coffee, pottery, texting each other at 6am, and pontificating about life. He knitted Meryl a blanket, which she uses to this day, demanding to be tucked in at night underneath it with her feet sticking out. It was a really nice night, and this shot of Frank walking out to the water with Meryl was just too precious to miss capturing. All the moments, and all the reason to remember to enjoy the moments that are present.
After all the sugar, Meryl went swimming in the sand at the beach:) On her belly, digging her hands down deep, then throwing sand in the air to fall on her face. This girl.
We have recently become enamored with a mischievous squirrel that jumps across the driveway, plucks our choice lettuce leaves to eat (while we just watch, of course), and then flattens out spread eagle on his full belly for a rest. Over and over again.
We need a few pinches because, thus far, Meryl’s a champ! In prep for her new bed coming this week, we took the face off her crib today, armed her with R2-D2, BB-8, and Tomato in front, and held our breaths...so far, so good! We’ll see how long it takes for her to realize that the ‘entire’ room is her’s to explore:)
We headed to the Edmonds dog park beach today for a Bernese Mountain Dog meet-up! Meryl got to play with seaweed, barnacles, rocks, and tiny little sea anemones, while Lummi checked-in on us between water romps.
Meryl’s Lola made her a fort of her floor squares and a party broke out.
Meryl and her Lola went out for a neighborhood stroll. For two hours! Along the way Meryl found a sprig of rosemary and a sweet pea flower to add to her Quaker Oats container.
Who knew pruning the tomato plants would attract such a scene?
New water and sand table! And, a watering hole for Lummi.
We’re gearing up for the big girl bed switch! Meryl loves her new quilt and R2-D2 and BB-8 beanbags, at least while they’re in the living room. Her crib and glider chair will adorn the office next. With part-time pre-school starting in September and big-sister status in November, we’re trying to not layer too much ‘new’ in Meryl’s life at once...though I know we’ll be dreaming about crib confinement in a week:)
Even the hovercraft close behind agrees!
Filling-up on fun!
