Air play

We headed to the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County in Santa Rosa and learned that it was full of air! This was such a fun exhibit where you put scarves through one end and pressurized air pushes them all throughout the tubes on the wall and then out at the ceiling, where they float gracefully down. Unless one gets stuck, by which we tried tirelessly to keep putting scarves into the tubes with never ending hope:)

The doctor is in

The curious case of an octopus in the belly arose here in Calistoga…good thing we had a pop-up clinic and medical professional here! (And a patient who became the doctor’s assistant.)

5%…?

Jellies (apparently not jelly ‘fish’) have no hearts, brains, or lungs, and are made up of 95% water - and their venom is deadly. And, they’re mesmerizing to watch!

California Academy of Sciences

From high above the hot and humid rainforest to deep below the sea, we saw it all! We experienced earthquakes, we saw bioluminescence (it’s real!), we met Claude the albino alligator, we saw clown fish living in sea anemones (just like we’ve read in a book!), and we saw big frogs and blue parrots and squawking birds and beautiful butterflies and spider silk webs!

Sensational seaweed

As it turns out, kelp is the ocean rockstar of…resilience! Found in oceans all around the world (except Antarctica), kelp provides billions of dollars worth of ecosystem services such as fish feeding grounds and coastal storm protection. (Services. Thank you, aquarium scientists, for this algae analogy.) Kelp helps us all above and below the water level - your presence is felt, kelp!

Visiting Lainie

We were able to see Lainie between meetings and we’re so glad we did! Her adjustable desk was a total surprise and delight highlight, and the kids found pretty much all the hiding spots no one knew existed while playing hide-and-seek:)

Performance watching

No editing needed, Meryl’s class performance, caught on my cell phone from the audience view, is the uncut version we will undoubtedly watch over and over again:)
